Mastomys natalensis (Smith 1834) - (multimammate mouse)
This rodent is found in Sub-Saharan Africa where it damages cereals. It is also a host for the Oriental rat flea Xenopsylla cheopis and a reservoir of several protozoan diseases like Toxoplasma gondii and Trypanosoma lewisi. The size of M. natalensis lies between that of a mouse and a rat. The total length of adults is around 20-25 cm, including a tail of around 10 cm. The weight can reach more than 50 g.
