Haemaphysalis punctata Canestrini & Fanzago, 1878 - (red sheep tick)
This species of tick is found in Europe and temperate parts of western Asia. It has been also recorded since 2010 from north-eastern North America (Tufts & Diuk-Wasser, 2021). The hosts include cattle, sheep, goats, horses, and humans. It has been also associated with migratory birds. H. punctata can carry and transmit a number of disease-causing agents like viruses, as well as Babesia, Theileria, Borrelia, Rickettsia and Anaplasma species.
