First record of the papaya mealybug, Paracoccus marginatus Williams and Granara de Willink (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha: Pseudococcidae), in the Western Palaearctic
EPPO Bulletin 46 (3), 580-582
Abstract: The papaya mealybug, Paracoccus marginatus Williams and Granara de Willink (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha: Pseudococcidae) has been found in Israel for the first time. This is also the first record of this invasive species in the Western Palaearctic region. The mealybug was detected at two locations in Northern Israel and was not accompanied by its principal natural enemies. Paracoccus marginatus is highly polyphagous and may develop large populations in Israel on annona, hibiscus, mulberry, papaya and the invasive weed Parthenium hysterophorus.
