Diabrotica speciosa (Germar, 1824) - (South American rootworm)

This beetle is found in most parts of South and Central America, but is absent in Chile, western Peru, as well as western and southern parts of Argentina. It is regarded as a polyphagous pest of several crops like potatoes, maize and groundnuts, causing chlorosis and defoliation. The adults feed on the leaves, while the larvae damage the roots and tubers. Various other crops are also attacked, including vegetables, fruit trees, legumes and grasses.

Adult beetles are around 5 mm long and typically yellowish green. Head and antennae are brownish yellow, tibiae and tarsi black, and there are 6 yellow marks on the elytra.
