Arhopalus rusticus (Linné, 1758) - (rusty longhorn beetle)

This long-horned beetle is found in the northern hemisphere. It has been also accidentally introduced into parts of South America and Australia. The beetle breeds in the trunks of conifer trees, especially those of pine trees. Mainly the trunks of felled trees, but also those of stressed standing trees are attacked. The timber value of infested trunks is reduced. In Asia the beetle has been found to carry the pinewood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus (e.g. see Wang et al., 2014).
