Aeolothrips intermedius (predator) Bagnall, 1934

This predatory thrips is common in Europe and is also found in temperate and subtropical parts of Asia. It preys on phytophagous thrips, other small insects or mites, and on pollen, both as larvae and as adults. The development from egg to adult lasts 2-3 weeks and there are 3-4 generations per year (Conti, 2009).

The adults have a body length of around 2 mm, with males being smaller than females. The antennae have 9 segments, with segments 6 to 9 together being shorter than segment 5. The head and pronotum lack elongated bristles. The general colour is brown, with the 2nd and 3rd antennal segments being lighter and the 2nd segment being lighter than the 3rd. The forewings are crossed by two dark stripes.

A. intermedius is often misidentified as Aeolothrips fasciatus.
