Betabaculovirus altermyunipunctae (entomopathogen)

Assigned virus:
Mythimna unipuncta granulovirus (MyunGV)

Two different granuloviruses are recognized as infecting the American armyworm Mythimna unipuncta, previously Pseudaletia unipuncta. The first one is based on an Hawaiian isolate (apparently PsunGV-H) and is officially called Pseudaletia unipuncta granulovirus (Betabaculovirus myunipunctae).

This page deals with the second one which is officially called Mythimna unipuncta granulovirus and is based on isolate MyunGV#8. That isolate originated from the collection of Mauro Martignoni. It was isolated apparently from Mythimna unipuncta in the north-western U.S.A. Both viruses differ significantly in their DNA structure. They have been originally called Mythimna unipuncta granulovirus A and B. These names were later changed to Pseudaletia unipuncta granulovirus (for virus A) and Mythimna unipuncta granulovirus (for virus B).
