Galinsoga Ruiz & Pav.
This genus of herbaceous plants contains more than 10 species. The genus is native to the Americas, but several species have been introduced to other regions and are considered important weeds. Galinsoga parviflora and G. quadriradiata are the most common species and are now found in many regions of the world.
The plants grow to a height of up to 60 cm. The leaves are elliptical. The flower heads are small and grow on branched inflorescences. Each flower head has typically 5 white petals (ligulate flowers) and up to 50 yellow disc flowers. The pappus is small and consists of up to 20 scales.
