Fannia canicularis (Linnaeus, 1758) - (lesser house fly)
This fly is widely distributed around the world. It breeds in decaying organic matter and larvae are, for example, commonly found in poultry manure. The adults are around 5 mm long. The larvae are flat with lateral appendages.
Populations can increase quickly to high levels under suitable conditions. In temperate regions, there around 6-7 generations per year, but more in warmer areas. The adults can transmit various diseases.
