Venturia effusa (G. Winter) Rossman & W.C. Allen 2016 - (pecan scab)

This fungus infects pecan fruit and foliage in the Americas. The disease is characteriyed by irregular blotches that aggregate and cover most of the leaf surface. The husk tissue of the fruits develop circular lesions. Heavy infestations result in yield losses and a reduction in the quality of the harvested nuts, up to total crop losses.

Between 7-10 days after an infection, conidia are formed which spread by rain splashes and wind. Management relies on the application of fungicides, but cases of V. effusa being resistant to some fungicides have been reported.
