Scolytus amygdali De Geer 1775 - (small almond-tree borer)
This bark beetle is found in southern Europe, the Mediterranean region and western Asia. It attacks the trunks and branches of stone and pome fruits, as well as other Rosaceae, mainly of weakened trees. The infestations can kill branches or young trees.
Outbreaks may develop and management actions might become necessary. These include treatments with pesticides or removal and burning of infested branches and trunks. S. amygdali belongs to the subgenus Ruguloscolytus which is sometimes regarded as a separate genus.
