Opisina arenosella Walker - (black-headed caterpillar)
The moth is a pest of coconut palms in India and Sri Lanka, from where various outbreaks have been reported It is also found in some neighbouring countries. Eggs are laid on the underside of the leaflets, where the caterpillars feed, usually gregariously. The attacked palms can have a scorched appearance and yield losses can reach 50%.
