Microtheca ochroloma Stål - (yellowmargined leaf beetle)
The beetle is an important pest of cruciferous vegetables in southern North America and can cause defoliation. It was accidentally introduced from South America (first record 1945). The species can be controlled with insecticides, but management in organic cultures is difficult. The life cycle from egg, through 3 larval stages, to mature adult lasts about 1 month and several generations might develop during one year.
The adult is about 5 mm long, dark brown to black with a yellow or light brown margin along the elytra. The elytra also have 4 rows of deep punctures.
