Phyllonorycter issikii (Kumata 1963) - (lime leafminer)
The species attacks the leaves of Tilia spp. in Europe and Asia. It was originally described from eastern Asia, but spread to European Russia (first record in Moscow in 1985), other eastern European countries (first record in Hungary in 2003) and eventually reached western Europe. In the invaded areas it outcompetes native leaf miners and weakens lime trees with a reduction in flowers and a negative effect on honey bees.
The larvae form tentiform blotch mines on the underside of the leaves. There are 2-3 generations per year with the newly hatched adult of the last generation overwintering inside the mine. The adult has a wingspan of 5-8 mm and the forewings show a pattern of brown and different shades of gray.
