Macrosiphum rosae (Linnaeus, 1758) - (rose aphid)
The rose aphid has a worldwide distribution and colonises mainly cultivated roses. New shoots and flower buds are most commonly infested. During outbreaks, buds and flowers may be damaged and flower quality is affected. In addition, the aphid transmits a variety of plant viruses.
During the summer, several generations are produced parthenogenetically. Winged forms may also form which can migrate to other plants. The winged forms return to roses in autumn and lay black eggs. The eggs overwinter and a new generation of wingless females develop in spring.
