Xanthogaleruca luteola (Müller, 1766) - (elm leaf beetle)
This beetle is native to Europe, western Asia and neighbouring regions. It has been introduced into North America and Australia, where it frequently defoliates elm trees and weakens them. Both larvae and adults feed on the underside of elm leaves. Heavily damaged leaves drop off. Apart from damage to elm trees, large numbers of adults can also invade homes in autumn, in search for a hibernation site.
The adult beetles are around 6 mm long, yellowish green with black stripes along the outer sides of the elytra, as well as along the border between both elytra. There are additional black marks, e.g. on the pronotum.
