User:Monica Hurtado Ruiz
Mónica Hurtado Ruiz is an Associate Professor at Universitat Jaume I de Castelló (area of knowledge: Plant Production). This permanent position include research, teaching and university management. Her professional career has always been linked to research and teaching. Her doctoral thesis relating to the application of molecular markers in fruit crops breeding was carried out at the Instituto Valenciano de Investigaciones Agrarias (IVIA) and was defended in 1999 at the Polytechnic University of Valencia. She completed her doctoral work with a stay at the University of Clemson, South Carolina (USA). She achieved a Postdoctoral position at the CID-CSIC in Barcelona and did a stay at the INRA of Montpellier. Today she continues her research in molecular biology applied to biological control of agricultural pests.
She has 15 publication in different scientific journals as Plant Breeding (18 de 57; impact factor: 0,77), Theoretical and Applied Genetics (1 of 55; impact factor: 2,26), Euphytica (20 of 55; impact factor: 0,71), Crop Protection (15 of 49; impact factor:1,19), Annals of Applied Biology (3 of 31; impact factor: 1,37), Biological Control (25 of 92; impact factor: 1,6), Experimental and Applied Acarology (26 of 92; impact factor: 1,6), Entomologica Experimentalis et Capitata (27 of 92; impact factor:1,6), Pest Management Science (7 of 92; impact factor: 2,7) and Molecular Ecology Resources (30 of 145; impact factor: 3,7), two publications in sciences magazines as Fruticultura Profesional and Boletín de sanidad vegetal-plagas and two book chapters: Control biológico de plagas agrícolas: Aplicaciones de las técnicas moleculares al control biológico de plagas. Phytoma España and Food web engineering to enhance biological control of T. urticae by phytoseiid mites in citrus. Prospects for Biological Control of Plant Feeding Mites. Progress in Biological Control. Springer.
She devotes part of her time to train new agricultural engineers (graduates), teachers (master) and researchers (master and PhD) at the Universitat Jaume I of Castelló. Her teaching activities include the development, reviews and updates of the learning materials and design assessments in the subjects of her responsibility: Supplementary Genetics and Fruit Trees production in the degree of Agronomical Engineering, Horticultural Crop Production and Gardening; Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering at the Inter-university Master’s Degree in Research in Molecular, Cellular and Genetics Biology (Universitat de València-Universitat Jaume I) (period 2007- 2011); Introduction and Innovation in Teaching Research for Natural Science at the Master's Degree for Secondary Education, Vocational Training and Language Teaching (Universitat Jaume I) and (since 2009) and Uses of Molecular Markers in Biothecnology in the Master's Degree in Agricultural Research and Biotechnology (Universitat Jaume I) (since 2014).
Since 2010 she is a vice-dean at the degree of Agronomical Engineering, Horticultural Crop Production and Gardening with responsibilities in the teaching programs management, the co-ordination between disciplines, the maintenance of a high quality teaching academic standards and to guarantee the student's learning experience.
