Specialist in ecology and dynamics of pest locusts and grasshoppers. A 35 years experience of these pests via numerous field trips in all the tropical areas, in particular West and North Africa, Madagascar, South America (in particular in Brazil and in Colombia), in the Middle East and in Southeast Asia. Author of many scientific publications (71), books and chapters (39), popularization papers (51), communications (72), and many expertise reports on locust problems for national and international organizations and private companies. Organizer of several international congresses (France 2001, Canada 2005, Turkey 2009) and symposia (China 2004) on Orthopteroïds insects. President of the Orthopterists' Society (http://140.247.119.225/OrthSoc/) from 2005 to 2009. Consultant and past member of the technical Group of the Desert Locust Control Committee of FAO (Food and agriculture organization of the United Nations). Research currently directed towards the comprehension of the population dynamics of various locusts and grasshoppers such as the Migratory Locust, the Red Locust and the Senegalese grasshopper. For many years, a main focus on the improvement of the preventative stragegy to better control the Desert Locust in West and North Africa in close cooperation with FAO (Desert locust group) and the national locust centers of all countries of the region. Coordination of various research projects on Desert Locust ecology, remote sensing of suitable biotopes, use of biological pesticides, as well as technical assistance to improve expertise of locusts centers in Africa.
