[Determination of parasitism status of Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) (Homoptera: Aleyrodidae) in cotton fields in Çukurova]
Turkish Journal of Entomology 30 (1), 33-41
Abstract: Parasitism of Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) (Homoptera: Aleyrodidae) nymphs by aphelinid parasitoids was determined during growing season in a selected three cotton fields [Karatas (Adana), Ceyhan (Adana), Yenice (Icel)] in the Cukurova Region in 2004 and 2005. Although percent parasitism rates varied according to sampled fields and sites Eretmocerus mundus (Mercet) and Encarsia lutea Masi (Hymenoptera: Aphelinidae) were found to be the most important parasitoids of B. tabaci in the cotton fields. Overall percent parasitism at Yenice where the highest in B. tabaci population in in 2004 and were 71.4 and 77.6 % in sprayed and un-sprayed plots, respectively. In 2005 parasitism rates were found to be 52.6 and 36.7 % for sprayed and unsprayed plots, respectively, at the same site. Total percent parasitism rates of Er. mundus (39.4 and 51.5 %) were higher than En. lutea (32.0 and 26.1 %) in sprayed and unsprayed plots in Yenice in 2004. Populations of B. tabaci were very low in Karatas and Ceyhan in both years.
