The template countes the number of species in the system which have been entered under the order Lepidoptera, but excludes those from the sub-orders Noctuoidea and Pyraloidea, as well as from the families Gelechiidae, Geometridae, Gracillariidae, Lasiocampidae, Tortricidae and Sesiidae. The following families are included:
- Acrolepiidae
- Argyresthiidae
- Carposinidae
- Cossidae
- Hesperiidae
- Incurvariidae
- Limacodidae
- Lyonetiidae
- Nymphalidae
- Oecophoridae
- Pieridae
- Plutellidae
- Psychidae
- Saturniidae
- Sphingidae
- Tineidae
- Yponomeutidae
It uses the ask function to count the species in the individual families and the parser function <#expr> to add up the results. New families under the Lepidoptera need to be added to this template. Then the page Miscellaneous families of Lepidoptera also needs to be changed.
