Symmetrischema tangolias (Gyen, 1913) - (South American potato tuber moth)
This small moth is native to the Andean region of South America. However, it has spread to North America, Australia and New Zealand and is regarded as a quarantine pest in other countries. It attacks potato plants, damaging the tubers (in the field and in storage), stems and leaves. Compared to the potato tuber moth, Phthorimaea operculella, it is more adapted to cooler temperatures (Sporleder et al., 2017).
