Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (weed pathogen) (Lib.) de Bary (1884)

This fungus causes stem rot and white mold diseases on many crops, see Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (as crop pathogen) for details. However, some strains have been studied as possible biological control agents against weeds (bioherbicides). For example, it has been field tested in pastures against Canada thistle (Cirsium arvense), e.g. see Hurrell et al. (2001).
