Schizolachnus pineti (Fabricius, 1781) - (grey pine aphid, waxy grey pine needle aphid, grey waxy pine needle aphid)
This species of conifer aphid is native to Europe and has been introduced into North America (Foottit et al., 2006). It colonizes various species of pine trees and heavy infestations can damage the host tree. The aphids are often arranged in rows on the needles, keeping contact with each other. It is believed that this behaviour facilitates alerting the whole colony to the presence of predators. Schizolachnus is regarded as a subgenus of Cinara by some authors.
