Columba livia Gmelin 1789 - (feral pigeon)
The feral pigeon is considered to be native in southern parts of Europe, northern Africa and western Asia but now has a world-wide distribution. It has been domesticated (domestic pigeon, Columba livia domestica) and is often closely associated with the human environment. After its introduction to other regions, it has often escaped domestication, forming again feral populations.
Apart from feral populations, there are many free-living "domestic" colonies as well as semi-feral flocks. The latter can be urban and agricultural pests. Damage in agriculture through seed predation is rarely serious. However, C. livia is more common in cities, and the droppings of the doves can contaminate and damage buildings and pose a health risk by transmitting diseases and parasites.

For control, several methods are being used like coloured seeds in agriculture, various mechanical barriers and acoustic devices to protect buildings in cities, as well as lethal and non-lethal repellents. In addition, culling, removing eggs and sterilization methods are being used. The promotion of predators has been also tried.
