[Morphological characteristics of a new species of Compsus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) a pest of citrus in Colombia]
Revista Colombiana de Entomología 28 (1), 33-41
Abstract: The citrus weevil, Compsus n. sp., is an undescribed species that causes serious damage to citrus orchards in Colombia. In order to provide basic information to facilitate its identification, information on morphometry and genitalia of adults were provided. Additionally, to facilitate field identification, qualitative characteristics on its stages were presented. The described adults were collected in the departments of Quindio and Tblima. The immature stages were described based on specimens reared in laboratory at Montenegro, Quindio (21.4°C and 89.2% R.H.). Specimens of Compsus n. sp. have a patron of stripes on the body generated by the form, distribution and color of the body scales. Other head, thorax, abdomen and appendix characteristics are described in detail. Information presented here will help to clarify confusions with other similar species found on citrus crops.
