[Effect of temperature on the development of Podisus nigrispinus (Dallas) (Heteroptera, Pentatomidae), predator of the cotton leafworm (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)]
Revista Brasileira de Entomologia 42 (3-4), 121-130
Abstract: The effects of the temperature on development of Podisus nigrispinus fed with larvae of Alabama argillacea (Huebner) were determined in bioclimatic chambers at 17, 20, 23, 25; 28, 30, 33 and 35 °C, relative humidity of 60 ± 10%, and a 14 h:10 h (L: D) photoperiod. Development period and viability of eggs of P. nigrispinus varied from 3.0 (33 °C) to 14;3 days (17 °C) and from 30.0 (23 °C) to 74.0% (28°C) respectively. Nymphal phase of individuals that originated males and females of P. nigrispinus varied from 16.0 (33 °C) to 59.0 days (17 °C) and from 15.0 (33 °C) to 60.1 days (17°C) respectively. Development of immature phase for individuals that originated adult males and females of P. nigrispinos varied from 19.0 (33 °C) to 73.3 days (17 °C) and 18.0 (33°C:) to 74.4 days (17 °C) respectively, Egg development of R. nigrispinus required 61.8 degree days above a threshold of 12.6 °C. Development of the complete P. nigrispinus nymphs that originated adult males and females required 271.1 degree days above 11.8 °C, and 272.3 degree days above 11.7 °C, respectively. Development from egg to adult required 332.9 degree days above 14.5 °C for males and 334.1 degree days above 14.5 °C for females.
