Rastrococcus Ferris, 1954

This genus of mealybugs contains around 25 species which are found in Australasia and southern Asia. Several species are invasive and have become important agricultural pests like Rastrococcus invadens.

The members of Rastrococcus have a broadly oval outline, 9-segmented antennae and long and slender legs. Other characters include 13-34 pairs of cerarii (groups of wax producing pores) or the structure of the spiracles, tarsi and the circulus (an adhesive cuticle structure on the ventral side).
