First report of Eutypa lata causing dieback of olive trees in Italy
Plant Pathology 58 (2), 398-398
Abstract: During 2007, olive trees grown in Italy were observed with symptoms of stem and branch cankers accompanied by a dark brown discoloration under the bark extending to the xylem. Cankers often girdled the stem causing plant death. The fungus Libertella blepharis [Eutypa lata] was isolated from the diseased plants. The identification was confirmed by the Centraalbureau voor Schimmelcultures, Utrecht, The Netherlands, using morphology and ITS1 sequencing. Pathogenicity of the isolates was demonstrated by inoculation and re-isolation.
