First report of leaf spot and stem canker on watermelon caused by Paramyrothecium foliicola in Mexico
Plant Disease 105 (8 - 2192)
Abstract: During 2019, watermelon plants grown in Mexico were observed with symptoms of brown, irregular-shaped to round leaf spot and stem canker lesions. The surface of the lesions contained abundant cup-shaped sporodochia covered by masses of olive-green to black conidia. The fungus Paramyrothecium foliicola was isolated from the diseased plants. The identification was based on morphological characteristics and DNA sequence analysis. Pathogenicity of the isolates was demonstrated by inoculation and re-isolation.
