First report of Dickeya fangzhongdai causing soft rot in orchid in Canada
Plant Disease 105 (12 - 0771)
Abstract: Water-soaked dark green spots were observed on the leaf surface of an orchid plant purchased in a local supermarket in Prince Edward Island, Canada, which developed into a soft rot. The origin of the orchid plants was traced back to a producer in Ontario, Canada, who propagated them with cuttings originally imported from the Netherlands and Taiwan. The bacterium Dickeya fangzhongdai was isolated from the diseased plant. The identification was based on PCR analysis and nucleotide sequencing of the isolates. Pathogenicity of the isolates was demonstrated by inoculation and re-isolation.
