First report of brown leaf spot of rice caused by Bipolaris zeicola in Pakistan
Plant Disease 105 (1), 212-212
Abstract: During 2017, rice plants (Oryza sativa) grown in Pakistan were observed with symptoms of brown to dark brown leaf spots (5 to 9 mm in diameter) that were oval or cylindrical in shape with a chlorotic yellow halo and grayish tan centers. The average disease incidence was 69% in six rice fields that were sampled for diseased plants with visible symptoms. The fungus Bipolaris zeicola was isolated from the diseased plants. The identification was based on morphological characteristics and DNA sequence analysis. Pathogenicity of the isolates was demonstrated by inoculation and re-isolation.
