This genus of predators mites is widely distributed. The genus is mainly characterized by which setae are present and how long these are. Several species are considered to be important natural enemies of small arthropod pests like whiteflies or spider mites. They have been described as type III predators which means they are not very efficient at low prey densities. The important species include for example Phytoseius finitimus and P. plumifer.
