Efficacy of biocontrol agent-fortified composted pine bark-amended potting mixes for suppression of Fusarium, Pythium, and Rhizoctonia diseases
Phytopathology 86 (11 suppl.), S6-S6
Abstract: Composted pine bark-amended potting mixes fortified with biocontrol agents Trichoderma hamatum 382 and Flavobacterium balustinum 299 consistently suppressed Pythium damping-off of cucumber and root rot of Poinsettia as well as Rhizoctonia damping-off and Fusarium wilt of raddish. These effects lasted through 6-mon of storage of mixes followed by a 3-mon poinsettia crop. In most cases, efficacy was not significantly (P = 0.05) different from that provided by fungicide drenches (metalaxyl and thiophanate-methyl). Grower demonstration trials with chrysanthemum, poinsettia and cyclamen verified this spectrum of activity.
