Development of an ELISA using monoclonal antibody specific for Phytophthora
Phytopathology 86 (11 suppl.), S69-S69
Abstract: A double-antibody sandwich (DAS) ELISA has been developed using a monoclonal antibody, A5520 produced against an isolate of Phytophthora infestans. The antibody recognized all of the 39 isolates of P. infestans from the United States, Canada and Mexico in the DAS ELISA. The antibody also reacted strongly with all of the 21 isolates from 14 other Phytophthora species, and negatively with the isolates from 14 Pythium species and 6 other different fungi. A weak cross-reaction of the antibody with pure culture extracts of some isolates of Pythium spp. was found in the test. As expected, the kit successfully detected Phytophthora spp. in infected plant tissues, such as roots, stems and potato tubers.
