The genus contains more than 500 species of cockchafer-like beetles which are called June beetles, June bugs or May beetles. They are widespread in the Americas. The adult beetles feed on leaves and the white grubs on roots, especially grasses, maize and other cereals. The adults are between 10 and 25 mm long with long legs and coloured dark brown or reddish brown.
