Phradis morionellus (parasitoid) (Holmgren, 1860)

This wasp is an important endoparasitoid of pollen beetle larvae (Brassicogethes aeneus) in Europe. Like Phradis interstitialis, the parasitoid completes its development in the pupal cocoon of the pollen beetle host, overwinters in the cocoon in the soil, and emerges as adult in the spring (e.g. see Husberg & Hokkanen, 2001).

P. morionellus is very similar to Phradis interstitialis, both in morphology and biology. Both species have been confused in the past. The combined parasitation rate of both species in pollen beetle larvae can exceed 50%.
