Phalangiidae (predators)

This family belongs to the harvestmen (Opilionida). It is widely distributed, except for Australia, and contains around 400 species. The Phalangiidae can be recognized by their large pedipalps which resemble an additional pair of legs. Like other harvestmen, they have long legs and do not construct webs. They feed on small insects. Some species are recognized as important predators of pest arthropods, like Phalangium opilio.
