Otiorhynchus Germar, 1822 - (broad-nosed weevils)

This is a very large genus of plant feeding weevils with around 1,000 species. They are common in temperate regions and are often polyphagous. Various species are pests of crops, feeding on leaves, buds and shoots. The larvae feed and develop on roots. For example, Otiorhynchus sulcatus attacks strawberries and various other crops and is mainly a problem in Europe and North America. The adults are flightless but can spread to crops through planting material.
