Oryzophagus oryzae (Costa Lima, 1936) - (South American rice water weevil)

The weevil is found in South America where the adults feed on the leaves of rice plants. They lay eggs on the leaf sheaths, near the water level. The larvae feed on the rice roots and can reduce the yield by up to 20%. The insect overwinters as adult on native plants or leaf litter near rice fields.
