Omphisa anastomosalis (Guenée, 1854) - (sweet potato vine borer)

This moth is found in southern parts of Asia and in Hawaii. It is of quarantine concern in other tropical regions. The larvae bore into the stems and tubers of sweet potato, causing wilting and yield losses of up to 50%. Mature larvae pupate inside the stems and the life cycle is completed in about 6-8 weeks.

The adult moth is whitish, interrupted by reddish-brown markings. The wingspan of the moth is around 3 cm. The larvae grow up to a length of about 3 cm and have a light violet or yellowish colour.
