Odontotermes formosanus (Shiraki, 1909) - (black-winged subterranean termite)

This termite is found in eastern Asia and attacks various crops, e.g. it removes the bark from trees. It also infests wood products. The wood is not eaten, but used to grow fungus gardens on which the termites feed. The termite activity can reduce the yield of fruit trees and may even kill trees. It further weakens dikes and dams by their subterranean structures which are up to 3 m deep.
