Sensibilisierung von Kindern der 4. Klasse in sechs Regionen Baden-Württembergs gegen Ambrosia-Pollen
[Sensitization to ambrosia (ragweed) pollen of 4th graders in six regions of Baden-Württemberg]
Nachrichtenblatt des Deutschen Pflanzenschutzdienstes 58 (11), 294-298
Abstract: Allergies and respiratory diseases range among the most frequent afflictions in industrialized countries. Globalization and climate changes suggest inter alia an increased spread of imported plant species with a relevant allergogenic potential. Ambrosia (ragweed) species fit among the species which seem to spread in some regions of Europe. We report the results of an allergy screening on 465 4th grade children in six regions of the state of Baden-Württemberg in Germany. Average sensitization to ragweed was determined as 13 %. Regional differences were found, but were not statistically significant in the small sample. Sensitization to the false ragweed, Franseria acanthicarpa, to Artemisia absinthium and Artemisia vulgaris, who are known cross reactive allergens, was found to be 8-10 %. In cases of sensitization to Ambrosia, frequently a sensitization to the three Ambrosia types (Franseria acanthicarpa, Artemisia absinthium and Artemisia vulgaris) was diagnosed, too.
