Myrmica rubra (Linnaeus, 1758) - (European fire ant)

The ant has been recorded from North America since 1906, where its considered a nuisance pest (due to its tendency to sting) and an ecological disturbance competing with native ants. It is native to Europe and northern Asia, where it is a beneficial predator of insect pests in forest ecosystems, see Myrmica rubra (predator).
