Monelliopsis caryae (Monell, 1879) - (American walnut aphid)

This species of aphid is native to North America and has been introduced into parts of Europe and Asia. It is one of several aphids that can cause significant damage to pecan and walnut trees. The aphid feeds on the leaves and at high densities, can produce large amounts of sooty moulds that cover the leaves.
