Abstract: Temperature had a great influence on the duration of the life cycle. At 15°C total developmental time was a mean of 26,3 days for S. longicornis females and 24,0 days for males. At 25°C only 13,1 days and 12,5 days were required by females and males, respectively. Thereby the egg stage lasted a mean of 6,3 days: The females remained in the first and second larval stage for a mean of 2,2 and 1,8 days, in the prepupal and pupal stage for 0,9 and 1,9 days. At 35°C total development only lasted 7,9 days for females and 7,5 days for males. Development of females required a significantly longer period than of the males at all temperatures. Longevity of S. longicornis females was longest at 15°C (72 days). At 25°C and 35°C the females lived for a mean of 57 days and 10 days. Mating was unnecessary to induce oviposition but unmated female's produced only male progeny. At 15°G a mean number of 260 eggs was laid per female during a mean oviposition period of 60 days, whereas at 25°C and 35°C S. longicornis produced a mean total progeny of 285 and 105 eggs and the oviposition period lasted a mean of 45 and 10 days, respectively.
