Macrotermes bellicosus (Smeathman, 1781)
This large mound-building termite is common in tropical parts of Africa and can damage crops like groundnuts and cereals, as well as wooden structures. It is also used by humans as food and for feeding poultry (Boafo et al., 2019).
The mounds can reach a height of more than 5 m, and colonies consist of minor and major workers, minor and major soldiers, and queens. Queens can reach a length of around 10 cm.
