Maconellicoccus Ezzat, 1958
This small genus of mealybugs contains around 10 species which are found in Asia, Australia and Africa. The most important pest species is the polyphagous Maconellicoccus hirsutus. That species appears to be native to southern Asia but has spread to various other regions, being first recorded from Egypt in 1912, Hawaii in 1984 and the Caribbean in 1994.
