Juncus (crop) - rushes

This is the main genus of the family Juncaceae (rushes), monocots resembling grasses. The genus has a world-wide distribution. Juncus effusus is grown in Asia for the production of traditional floor mats or sleeping mats (tatami in Japan). It is also grown as an ornamental and is used in some countries for medicinal purposes. Some species of Juncus are agricultural weeds.
