First report of Rhizoctonla solani causing crown rot of wormweed in Italy
Journal of Plant Pathology 89 (2), 305-305
Abstract: Wormwood (Artemisia annua L.), has been proposed as an alternative crop in tobacco-growing areas of southern Italy and plants growing in Campania and Apulia were found to be affected by crown rot. Infected plants showed reduced size and necrotic tissues at the level of the soil line. Isolations yielded 16 multinucleate Rhizoctonia isolates. Pairings were made with tester isolates of Rhizoctonia solani anastomosis groups (AG) 1 through 11. High fusion frequency was observed with tester strains belonging to AG-4. The pathogenicity of three selected isolates was confirmed by re-inoculations.
