Food-plant tests with the differential grasshopper
Journal of Economic Entomology 56 (3), 397-399
Abstract: Feeding trials with Melanoplus differentialis showed that an exclusive diet of lucerne (alfalfa) was inadequate for complete nymphal diet; mixed food plants were required. Increasing the density of any food plant in relation to others present in cage tests increased the amount of feeding on that plant. It is suggested that weed control in lucerne fields would probably reduce infestations of M. differentialis.
